Final Major Project (year one)

This project is a mix of 3D animations, live footage and a 2D photo montage. The mixture of different media is important because it will represent the different forms and ways this story can be viewed, experienced and told. The project's story is about sibling relationships, and there are so many different dynamics and experiences that people have had with their siblings.

The story is a fictional representation of my experiences with my brother. Mainly based on the lessons my parents ingrained in us since we were young children. A key phrase in my childhood was “You are a team” meaning that it was always the two of us against them and the world. I appreciate this lesson they taught me as it has blossomed into a beautiful sibling relationship between my brother and me. I would like to spread that message in the hope that someone will see themself and their siblings in this project.

After completing my 3D modelling and texturing, I rigged up the models to start making the animation. It was a frustrating and complex process, as the animation I had selected from the Maya built-in library would not match the model. This led to trial and error before I finally worked out how to make the Riggs and animations match. Next, I added cameras, so that the perspective would be perfectly positioned when I started the rendering. As I have had only limited experience with rendering, I struggled to create proper lighting for the render. This is an area for improvement in the future.

Once I had completed my rendering, I continued with Adobe After Effects. I positioned the 3D model on top of a recording of a park. Making sure that the model did not look out of place in the scene and ensuring it wasn't floating.

After preparing all the assets needed for my video. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to start editing the sounds, videos, and text together into a finishing piece.
